304) The Autobahn Roadhouse of Glasnevin Avenue, D11

According to their website, this has been 'a local landmark since the 1960s' – they also make much online boast about their 'bespoke cocktails', though this heinous concoction can surely only be obtained on the genteel lounge side, for the bar section would not stomach any such gassy nonsense, being the domain of seasoned pint-men true and proper. As the name implies, they seem to have a thing for cars – but don’t worry, it’s not sexual. A framed T-shirt on one wall indicates that they are proud sponsors of the Ballymun Kickhams. An old stove catches the eye. The bar ceilings are low and the aforementioned lounge is larger (surprise, surprise). One experienced a shudder of dread or threat thanks to the wide-eyed and hostile stare granted us by one supper at the counter, who was subsequently seen crossing behind the bar to refresh his cup (is he family? Does he work there? Is his simplicity scorned not?), thereafter positioning himself uncomfortably close to us in our corner, as though a bit of eavesdropping would ascertain whether or not we were undercover cops. But no harm done, we won't be returning.
