283) Caulfield's Bar and Hotel of Lower Dorset Street, D1

(Now: Dorset Lounge). Beamish costs three euro and fifty cents (making it technically the cheapest Beamish in Dublin, tying with the lousy Lowry's of Summerhill, and not counting The Silver Penny, a recent rotten Wetherspoons which is five cents cheaper). The humdrum environs cannot take away from this salient economic fact, so if short of funds and desperately thirsty, one can easily forgive the characterless ambiance of the surroundings. On entry, ignore the threatening sign that claims only hotel guests/residents can be served – the South American barman will be glad to see a fresh face and more than happy to serve you as one of their own. But a recent revisit (without actually going in) revealed that the name 'Caulfield's' has been emphatically scrubbed out of all the signage, making it now an anonymous and nameless 'Bar and Hotel'. One wonders why – blood feud? Death in the family? Its current state of namelessness is somewhat ominous and gives one pause.

Update as of 2021: The name has now appeared on its overhead. The Dorset Lounge can be seen pictured below.
