182) Kavanagh’s of New Street, D8

With only one small window at the front, a closed-down off-licence and a very unfortunate ‘Heineken’ clock, this bar looks like a bit of a bunker. However, the interior is not void of light owing to the windows on the right as it runs down along Long Lane. To its credit, there’s a very friendly environment and a great pint of stout making it a damn lot better than the skip over the road (see Peadar Browns). Tipplers Tip: a midweek pint is preferable compared to weekends when they cater for the older-than-elderly by insisting on hiring a dodgy DJ (one thinks of Daniel O’Donnell) to fart out ear-splittingly crap karaoke for the approximately deaf. Will this tradition not expire alongside its generation?
