312) Meagher's of Richmond Road, Ballybough, D3

A gargantuan lounge dwells in darkness, and while it may come into its own on Fridays and Saturdays, it looks to be eerily deserted for the bulk of the rest of the week. A small front bar, effectively an empty room with complement of some tables, chairs and a row of beer taps, is more lively and attracts the sun. The barman, echoing the reactions of his colleagues in Finglas, was visibly surprised to be asked to pour a Beamish, encouraging Andrew Stephens to expect the worst, but it was his turn to be surprised when the pints proved to be excellent. A strong sporting emphasis can be seen in many of the newspaper cuttings adorning the walls, bar the weird exception of what seems to be a framed photo of a calf in a taxi, mooing dulcetly on its melancholy baby's way to market and murder.
