275) O'Shea's Bar and Hotel of Talbot Street, D1

This hotel has within it a humble bar that serves as an early-house and slips into a late-night pint shop hidden in plain sight. We were tipped the wink about this little-known bar by none other than nuncle Richard O’Carroll who has no doubt succumbed to one or two nightjars in his day.

Update as of 2019: A new beer garden was opened at the back of the bar which is spacious and colourful and has the same stylistic concept as that of Jimmy Rabbite’s of Lower Camden Street. False façades of pubs create a small-town vibe. Each façade bears a name overhead such as ‘The Salmon Leap Inn’ and ‘The Hatchet Inn.’ Closer inspection of the doors reveal that the letter boxes are in fact electric sockets to plug in your phone charger. One façade is a Post Office which has a genuine functioning letterbox, another has a stable with a horse head protruding from the wall. It might well be a winner in summer, but in winter it was a village abandoned.
