119) The Barge Inn of Charlemont Street, D2

A fairly gastritis sort of affair by a barge on the Grand Canal, obscenely overpriced and characterless yet redeemed on a sunny day by a pleasant waterfront facing aspect. On the other hand, in the summertime it can come to resemble a music festival, such is the intensity of the throngs who hog the front benches and spill onto the canal banks and locks. Four separate bars over three floors. Craft beer and cocktails rule the day in this self styled gastro pub. In more recent years, folk have since been banned from carrying drinks outside (unless equipped with crappy disposable/ environmentally unfriendly plastic cups), resulting in a significant falloff.

Tipplers Tip: as many readers will flock to the outside of the pub to have their cheap cans (and who use the pub as their toilet), they should also remember to keep an eye out for the Gardaí who love to flex their muscles when crowds become too large.

Tiocfaidh ár lá, and all that jazz.
