99) McGarry's (now: Lyster’s) of Harold's Cross Road, D6W

A comparatively young pub in Harold's Cross, operational under its current name since 2012, and previously known as Sean MacD's. Favourite go-to local for Sean O'Rourke, who can't get enough of a certain alcove they call 'The Library' where all too often after work he will be found burrowing and beavering over his papers, penning Byronic couplets fueled by Heineken, or dashing off lengthy political treatises in the boozy manner of a wannabe Hitchens. A large lounge is all but a restaurant (formerly called: The Joshua Tree). A pleasant beer garden can be enjoyed and decent food can be had. Marred somewhat by a joyless and depressive barman who can claim to be one of the worst in Dublin (himself badly in need of a square meal, given his worrying gauntness), given to deliberately ignoring the openly thirsty and developing a spontaneous interest in drying glasses just as one manages to catch his eye [1]. Sack that twat! 'Joker Poker' and pub quizzes are common and popular. Mediocrity is the drink of the day here . It’s a bit of a pit.

Update as of August 2021: McGarry’s is now ‘Lyster’s.’ The pub has undergone a facelift to coincide with its new owners. Guess what? Cocktails and pizza are the new hero products, how unoriginal. Some positive news is that excellent bar manager Ray of Corrigan’s fame is running the show (albeit part-time, juggling his days between the two shops) and will no doubt be running a tight ship.
