238) Patrick Carthy and Son The Ivy House of Upper Drumcondra Road, D9

A massive painted mural greets the passerby on the outside wall, depicting a beaming old man showing off a capacious gap between his teeth – presumably the mythic and titular Patrick Carthy himself. Beamish is served, and enthusiastically advertised by means of a similarly eye-catching exterior mural. Within was extremely cramped and claustrophobic but bursting full of character – infinitely preferable to the modern nightclub extension next door, which goes by the name of The Ivy House.
