329) Scholar’s Pub of Old Court Centre, Parklands Road, Firhouse, D24

A pleasant spacious bar and a massive foody lounge which sprawls over two levels. A decent Beamish can be had in the former at €4.50. Sam Coll’s first pint was slightly sour which he put down to it being the first instance the Beamish had been poured that day. His subsequent pint proved more palatable. The bar has a charming coal-burner and a sign which reads: ‘When I die, I want to be buried under the Scholar’s Pub so my husband can visit.’ A pair of Podge and Rodge dolls stare at the public from behind the bar. The lounge is home to an impressive circular library-room which is in theme with its title and can be closed off by curtains for privacy. A view of the Dublin Mountains is an added bonus.
