25) The Workman's Club of Wellington Quay, D2

A deafening late-opener on the quays, operational in its present state since 2010 having previously long stood vacant, the name deriving from the private gentleman's club it once was. Unfriendly bouncers filter out the tipsier. Its next door quayside neighbour is the Bison Bar (see more info far, far below) and the two seem to share the same back passages by way of entry/exit. The Workman's smoking area has luridly painted walls and crooked doors that lead to nowhere, as well as a kiosk that provides burgers until the later hours.

Popular with music and comedy gigs, as well as a growing number of book and magazine launches – Sam Coll had his 2016 novel The Abode Of Fancy launched here by Lilliput Press, and Ronan Murphy launched his 1922s album The Very Lotust in 2011, to name just a couple of cultural events among many to which this dump plays host. Coll once slipped and fell on the wet bathroom floor in 2012, cracking a canine tooth as a painful consequence of his moment's misfortune.
