338) The Dropping Well of Classon's Bridge, Milltown Road, D6

Very much a Charlie Chawke bar, with an old-style car parked outside adorned with the family motto, and heavy emphasis on old man Bill's original craftily brewed lager of lather. The place is simultaneously labyrinthine and claustrophobic, with many segments to cater for differing needs and appetites, be your taste for liquids or solids or both at once. A dining section has a great view of the River Dodder, and is aptly called 'The Dodder Room'. This section of the Dodder is of further interest for the odd statue of a rhinoceros that graces it – nobody seems to know the sculptor's name, but the piece is nicknamed 'Woody the Adopted Rhino'.

The bar section (known as 'Boxer Maher's) is a great place to watch the sport, if that's your thing. Golf clubs hang from the ceiling, and an old-school telephone is in evidence. Elsewhere you may find a skinned tiger hanging from the roof, and the same bust of the ubiquitous Con Houlihan that greets one on entry into the Bank of Dame Street (see far above). If you are so inclined, you may also enjoy a pint of so-called 'Gluten-free beer'.
