270) The Halfway House of Ashtown, Navan Road, D7

Not to be confused with ‘The Halfway House’ of Walkinstown.

SC: I look up a photo of the exterior (very large, with complement of car-park, smacks of 'family-friendly) and I know that I have been there – but that's the sum of it, alas...

AS: I, too, can add very little. A vague and hazy rememory of folks stuffing their face with bar food, lots of wood and open fires. Beamish can be bought.

More interesting is the journey one takes from the city centre en route via feet. We walked the full length of the Phoenix Park along the main road within the wood to reach the House. We subsequently returned in the darkness of night (save for a few shimmering stars) hoping not to lose sight of the straight path - being a pair of stumbling drunks, and eventually, after several stops for urination and conversing with (and indeed hugging) several venerable trees, we finally made it back through the gate, and back into urban life. #factsnotfakes
