287) The Kings Inn of Bolton Street/Henrietta Street, D1

Not to be confused with The Kings Inn of Dalkey. This pub lay closed for over three years but is now revamped as of 2018, and boasting some interesting photographs on the walls. As we entered we found an authentic life-sized suit of arms with a shield in one hand and a halberd in the other - ready to defend his phantom King in the Inn. The pub sits on the corner of Bolton Street and the beautiful and haunting Henrietta Street (at the end of which is the Shakespearean laneway that leads to the original Kings Inns and park). If, like us, one finds oneself en-route from Cumiskey’s to the King’s Inn, this is the route to take, and say hello too, to the famous Hungry Tree [1]. The seating in the pub consists of long benches either side of tables which lend themselves to a level of intimacy. A raised area at the back of the bar is home to a wood burning fire and a small library. Pitchers of Fosters are available for €12 to those so inclined.
