288) Lowes of Dolphin’s Barn Street, D8

This amiable ‘select bar’ is home to an enjoyable pint and written on a blackboard in the lounge is: ‘Feck Wi-Fi, talk to each other and get drunk.’ A retro swing-sign affixed to the exterior modestly states ‘Pub Grub.’ The bar feels homely and is dog friendly. On the street of Dolphin’s Barn it stands detached and so it juts. The layout to the front is spacious and gives a lovely light encouraging an archetypal Captain Shotover type barfly to permanently seat himself, hairy-faced and hatted. The rest of the bar is long and narrow. The exit leads onto Rehoboth Place and on further inspection from this vantage point the property is considerably elongated, however this longer section is closed, truncating Lowes by over half its size.
