399) The Parnell Heritage Bar and Grill of Parnell Street, North City, D1

The statue of our uncrowned king Charles Stewart Parnell stands at the northern end of O’Connell Street with one finger pointing left, as if to encourage punters to try the pub that bears his name. The exterior is very fine indeed, with gargoyles sticking out of the walls, and magnificent tall windows that admit tremendous light and offer a great view of the Rotunda Hospital. The interior’s best feature is a pretty mosaic floor. After that, you’re on your own. Lotsa food and Xmas decor at the time of our visit in December 2022.

No man has a right to fix the boundary of the march of a nation - towards his pub

Lotsa screens and glitzy neon lights - the vibe is very ‘airport lounge’, one feels like one is killing time before a flight (and bankrupting oneself in the process). It’s a tall building with lotsa levels and lotsa capacity with Captain Moonlight’s Rooftop Terrace on the top floor - no view of the city, sadly - and the Rua Cocktail Bar on the floor below. You can access these amenities (and the toilet facilities) by means of a handy elevator that Andrew Stephens wasted no time in hopping into, for to take lotsa photos ‘cause we don’t like lotsa big words but love lotsa pics and gifs and jpegs.

There’s a Kitty O’Shea corner ‘cause she was his mot like, and lotsa history on a sign near the entrance. The pint also costs lotsa money! One aul timer asked the waitress how much a Guinness was. Six euro ten cents she sweetly tells him, with daggers in her eyes. SIX FUCKING TEN?!? the aul fella spluttered. Well yes, exactly, we feel his pain.
